The final project is about the use of guiding questions to improve students’
ability in writing Narrative text. The objective of this study is to find out whether
guiding questions can help students to improve their ability in writing narrative
text or not.
The population of this study was the eleventh grades students of SMA
Negeri 10 Semarang in academic year of 2013/2014 with a total number of 102
students. Quasi experimental group design was used in this study. Two classes
were taken as the samples. The data were collected using writing tests. They were
try-out, pre-test and post-test.
The result of this study shows that the pre-test average score of the
experimental class was 54.13 and that of the control class was 53.84. After the
treatments were given in the fifth meeting, the post-test average score of the
experimental class was 70.07 and that of the control class was 62.21. It proved
that the experimental class had improved in their writing ability. It was supported
by the mean of the group that experimental group was better than control group,
that was 70.07>62.21. The result of analysis showed that there was a significant
difference. It was proved by t-test result, the significant difference in the result of
post-test between control and experimental class was sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05.
It could be concluded that H1 was accepted. So, the use of guiding questions could
help students to improve their ability in writing Narrative text.
