Abstract

In regard of the major issue as to how the Diasporan group faces the assimilation, I wish to put my study as continues research process. I have noticed the question of assimilation as the impact of Diaspora has gone through many steps. Diaspora brings to mind several assumption. It can be the positive and negative of adapting one’s identity. Diaspora gets affected by some aspect of life such as culture, language, people, and place. What makes Diaspora different than the other forms of movement, this kind of movements known as immigration. The immigrant people depend on the new land but they form new communities that are mixture of their tradition. This study deals with the issue of Diaspora which relates to the characteristics of Diaspora as well as assimilation as the impact of Diaspora. The aim of this study was to find out the characteristics encountered by Mrs. Parker family and to know the impact of Diaspora perceived by analyzed character during the their process of Diaspora. The approach of this study was descriptive qualitative research through the process of gathering the data qualitatively and reporting them descriptively. Throughout finding necessary data, derive from two divisions. Primary and secondary data. The primary data were taken from Harald Zwart’s film, Karate Kid and the second data were taken from journals and online sources related to the study. The first step for analysing the data was by watching the film and reading the movie script. The second step was classifying and identifying the data that presented about the characteristics and the impact of Diaspora by Mrs. Parker family. This study shows how the issue of Diaspora relates to the characteristic of Diaspora and assimilation as the impact of Diaspora as reflected in Karate Kid film. The result of this study showed that the Diasporan group integrates and possible to become a new type of human being as an immigrant in the new land. It represent assimilation in adoption values that exist in host country.
