This study analyzes the striving for superiority of Anna as the main character who suffers from digestive organs disorder represented in Miracles from Heaven (2016) movie. The aims of this study are to identify the feeling of inferiority of Anna and to analyze her striving for superiority. This study uses Alfred Adler’s individual psychology theory.
The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data in this study were in the form of dialogue collected by watching the movie, reading the movie scripts, and grouping them into tables. The primary data was taken from Miracles from Heaven (2016) movie and the secondary data were taken from e-books, e-journals, also articles.
This study concluded two points. First, Anna in Miracles from Heaven (2016) movie experienced feelings of inferiority because of physical weakness, anxiety, and pessimistic. Anna’s feeling of inferiority that triggers to achieve her desire to recover by striving for superiority. Second, Anna motivates herself as intrinsic motivation to be able to achieve her final goal and motivation is also obtained from others called extrinsic motivation, such as family and those closest to her. And, she certainly has good styles of life as a proponent for achieving these final goals. During Anna’s healing process, she always did everything by involving God every day, and she never stopped to worship God. Until one day, the miracle came. Finally, God answers all the prayers of Anna’s striving and her family for Anna.
