Abstract

This study is entitled "Courage in Language in President Joko Widodo's Speech in the 2019 People's Convention with the Optimistic Theme of Advanced Indonesia". The problem examined in this study is the politeness of language conducted by President Joko Widodo in the 2019 People's Convention with the Theme Optimistic Indonesia Forward. The purpose of this research is to (1) Describe and analyze the compliance with language in President Joko Widodo's speech at the 2019 popular convention with the optimistic theme of advanced Indonesia. (2) Identifying and analyzing violations of politeness in the language of President Joko Widodo's speech at the 2019 popular convention with the optimistic theme of advanced Indonesia. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Qualitative research in the form of an analysis of the words of President Joko Widodo which shows a form of obedience and violation of language politeness. Based on the results of research and language, researchers found (1) the form of obedience to the language of politeness in President Joko Widodo's speech at the 2019 popular convention with the optimistic theme of Indonesia. The data obtained were 81 utterances, consisting of 15 maxims of wisdom, 13 maxims of generosity, 30 maxims of praise , 5 maxims of humility, 5 maxims of agreement, and 13 maxims of conclusion. (2) the violation of the principle of politeness in the speech at President Joko Widodo's speech at the 2019 popular convention with the optimistic theme of advanced Indonesian data obtained amounted to 16 utterances, consisting of 8 maxim of wisdom, 1 Generosity, 1 maxim of praise, 5 maxim of humility and 1 maxim of maxim conclusion. (3) The scale of politeness in the language of President Joko Widodo's speech at the 2019 popular convention with the optimistic theme of advanced Indonesia has fulfilled the politeness of the language. Based on research results, politeness in language needs to be improved in both formal and informal situations. This determines the courtesy of the language used by the interlocutor. This research can also be used as an alternative reference in pragmatics.
