Abstract
Humans naturally need a public open space as an activity space that meets the various activities desired. So the public space should be able to provide comfort to the individuals who come (Rustam Hakim, 2003) But in fact the existence of the square as a public space still has problems such as scattered rubbish that caused the smell of garbage, lack of facilities, public transport circulation that is not reach the square. The research method used is quantitative deductive research using rationalistic approach. Obtaining data using documentation, observation, literature, and instrument / questionnaire with the result of the level of public space comfort in the Square Bung Karno included in the category is not good. The results of the study based on the visitor's perception of Bung Karno Square, According to the visitor's perception, the level of public space comfort in Bung Karno Square is included in good enough category with the beauty variables of the square including not good (50.20%); Cleanliness including good enough (62,50%) security including excellent (87,40%.) Circulation including good enough (62,20%.), Aroma / odor including not good (40,40%), shape included good enough (55.00%,), natural climate including good enough (40,40%).
The level of public space comfort in the square bung karno theoretically included in the not good, but in fact the level of comfort perceived by the visitor is quite good. So it can be concluded that the level of public space comfort can not be measured only by theory alone, but need to be adjusted to the real needs of the community. Perception of the community as a visitor also entitled to provide input for the creation of a sustainable public space. Semarang Regency Government should add the route of public transport to the square, repair damaged facilities and add seaside facilities, Gazebo / canopy, lighting, provide a strategic parking lot, reproduce the plants especially near the field and Pujasera, and visitors and traders who sell in the area the square should keep the facility and not littering.
