The purpose of this study is to find out what is the psychological impact of Husband’s infidelity on betrayed wives: including various kinds of husband’s extra marital affair experienced by subjects, subject’s reaction, short therm psychological impact on subjects shortly after the extra marital affair occured, and subject’s long therm psychological impact after husband’s extra marital affair occured.
Qualitative method with phenomenological approach is used in this study because the sensitive nature of the issue. Participants in this study are 4 women who aged above 17 and had experienced husband’s infidelity.
The result of this study indicates that all the subjects had experienced husband’s infidelity in various kind of acts which includes: extra marital affair in long distance marriage, extra marital affair with ex-lover, extra marital affair with collague, extra marital affair which occured while husband working away. This study finds that the subjects of this research undergo short term psychological impacts such as anger, frustration, sadness, and lost of confidence. Aside of the psychological impacts, there are several behavioral changes on subjects after experiencing husband’s infidelity. Subjects prone to distrust men, hate men, avoiding men, very suspicious of their husband, aphatetic towards their husband, hate marriage, reluctant to remarry or don’t have any interest on having a new relationship with another man.
