Abstract
Key words: Humanistic Psychology, Basic Needs, Self Actualization
This study discusses and analyzes the characteristics of Graham Hollister, the main character in Amanda Steven’s Texas Ransom. It was aimed to give the description and explanation of Graham Hollister’s basic needs and the criteria of self actualization appeared on him.
This study is qualitative research methodology supported by primary and secondary data. The primary data were taken from Texas Ransom novel. Meanwhile, some sources such as books, articles, journals and websites of Internet were used as the secondary data. The data were collected by reading the novel, identifying, inventorying, classifying and reducing the data. This study usedtwo techniques of analyzing data; they were analyzing and reporting the data. In analyzing the data, this study used humanistic psychological approach, discussed based on Abraham Harold Maslow’s theory.
The result of the study shows that Graham Hollister had everything he should have. Every single thing that belonged to him such as having food and water, house, wife, other people’s appreciation and still many more reflects the completion of his basic need. His characteristic also met the criteria of self- actualization. Free from psychopathology, complete hierarchy needs, embrace B-value, exploit talents, capacities, and potentialities make him to be self-actualizing person.
