Abstract
This final project analyzes steps fulfillment of Self-actualization toward
Beatrice “Tris” Prior’s personality. The aim of this final project is to get
information about the effects of Self-actualization toward main character. The
object of this study is Veronica Roth’s novel entitled Divergent.
This study use descriptive qualitative analysis. The data of this study were
in forms of sentences, phrases, and written dialogue. The data of this study were
collected by reading the novel, identifying the data, classifying the data,
inventorying the data, reducing the data, and reporting the data. The analysis is
done by giving statement, describing and quoting through explanation. In the
analyzing, this study used psychological humanistic of human needs theory by
Abraham Maslow which focus discussing about the fulfillment of Selfactualization.
The analysis finds several findings. The first is the fulfillment of Selfactualization
toward main character of novel. The main character fulfills
physiological needs since in Abnegation faction. Then the main character fulfills
the rest of the steps of human needs by transfer to Dauntless. In Dauntless she
begins to fulfill safety needs, love and belonging needs, self-esteem needs, and
self-actualization needs. The second is main character succeeds to fulfill six keys
categorize of self-actualized people. The last, main character is able to fulfill the
steps of needs and has several positive effects.
