Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of teenager and addiction as depicted in
the main character Nic Sheff or called Nic in the Beautiful Boy movie (2018). This
movie is based on a true story that highlights the life of a teenager, his parents, and
his environment that bring him trapped into a drug addict. The objectives of this
research were to find out the factors that causing drug addiction and to find out
rehabilitation and punishment to overcome Nic’s drug addiction.
This research used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze movie
supported by primary and secondary data. This primary data were taken from the
movie and the movie scripts, while secondary data was taken from journals, books,
articles, and sites related to research. The data obtained includes sentences in the
form of monologues, dialogues, and cut scene derived from primary data sources
the Beautiful Boy movie (2018); which were explained through statements,
quotations, descriptions, and figures.
The results of the entire research can be explained that Nic is a teenager who
is addicted, especially to drugs, and he is struggling to get out of that addiction. This
addiction was influenced by several supporting factors, such as psychological,
biological, and environmental factors. Furthermore, Nic also experienced a
situation where he received rehabilitation and punishment as a form and way to
overcome his drug addiction. This phase is not easy being Nic going through this,
however, here Nic continues to struggle and face what happened to him.
