Abstract

This study is about teaching writing a descriptive text using collaborative
writing technique, to the Eighth Graders of MtsDarulFalahSirahan. The objective
of this study is to find out whether collaborative writing techniqueis more
effective than conventional technique to teach writing description.
The design of this study was quasi experimental.
.The population of the
study was the eighth graders of MTs DarulFalahSirahan in the academic year of
2015/2016 with a total number of 168 students. The writer took two classes as
samples; they were VIII E as experimental class and VIII C as control class. The
writer used pre-test and post-test. a pre-test was given to both groups before
treatment. A post-test was given after the treatment was done. Then, the data from
the two tests were scored and the writer used SPSS for Windows version 21.0 to
analyze the result of the pre-test and post-test.
The result of t-test showed that the mean of the experimental group in pretest
was
60.00
and
the
mean
of
the
control
group
was
55.29.
After
conducting
the

experiment,

the writer gave the post test. The mean score of post-test of the
control group was 71.06 and that of the experimental group was 77.58. The T-test
calculation shows that the difference is significant. It was supported by the result
of the pre-test and post-test in the experimental clas� � � � �� � (2-tailed) 0.000 <
0.05. It could be concluded that H

was accepted. So, the use of collaborative writing technique in teaching writing description was better than that of the
conventional technique.
Teaching a descriptive writing text using collaborative writing technique is
a good way to help the students improve their ability in writing descriptive text.
