Abstract

This study was an effort at teaching English speaking skill by using Skype
method for beginner students in Sultan Agung English Club Semarang especially
in the third Semester. It was conducted from January 5", 2013 to January 18"
2013. The problems that have been discussed were the significant difference of
students speaking ability before and after getting the treatments.
In reaching the purpose of this study, the writer used the Pre-test Pot-test
Design, due to some technical cases. The sample of this study was beginner of the
third students in Sultan Agung English Club Semarang and the number of the
sample was 8 students. In collecting the data, the writer used test to measure the
students' speaking skill.
The result of this study shows that there is a significant difference in the result of
pre-test and post-test. The total average of pre-test in was 44,31 and the total average of
post-test was 50,19. From the average of pre-test and post-test showed the difference
significant after the data was analyzed in SPSS.
According to the result of the calculation in t-test, that t-value at equal
variance was t= - 3.873 and sig. (2 tailed) = 0.006, because Sig. (2-tailed) < 0,05,
than Ho was rejected because the average of the population was different. The
result shows that there is a significant difference, so it can be included that Skype
method has improved students speaking ability.
