Abstract
Key Words: Personal Vocabulary Notes, Develop and Vocabulary
Personal Vocabulary Notes is one of the techniques that make students
interested because they like learning active and not monotonously technique.
Personal Vocabulary Notes is one of the techniques in learning vocabulary that
can attract the students‘ interest in learning vocabulary.
The objective of the study is to find out the effectiveness of Personal
Vocabulary Notes as technique to teach vocabulary. The population of the study
was grade VIII students of MTs Darul Hasanah Semarang. The number of the
students in grade VIII was 122 who were divided into three classes. The sample of
the study was 82 students who were devided into two groups as control and
experimental group.
In conducting the study, the writer used non-equivalent groups design
because in this research, random sampling was not used. The population of the
study was the eighth grade students of MTS Darul Hasanah Semarang in the
Academic Year of 2014/2015 and in taking the sample the writer used a purposive
sampling technique. In collecting the data,the writer used test as the instrument.
The writer used two kinds of test: pre-test and post-test. Before the experiment
was conducted, a pre-test was given to both groups. A post-test was given after
the treatment was done. Then, the data from the two tests were scored and the
writer used SPSS for Windows version 16.0 to analyze the result of the pre test
and post test.
The result of T-test showed that the mean of the experimental group in
pre-test was 42.5000 and the mean of the control group was 46.4634 After
conducting the experiment, the writer gave the post test. The mean score of posttest
of the control group was 73.2317 and that of the experimental group was
78.7805. The T-test calculation shows that the difference is significant.
Teaching vocabulary using personal vocabulary notes is a good technique
for the students and the English teacher should be creative in creating the new
technique to develop student‘s vocabulary.
