Abstract
Perkembangan kota Demak mengalami perjalanan sejarah yang panjang. Demak
merupakan kerajaan Islam pertama di pulau Jawa dimana kota Demak ini mendapat
julukan sebagai kota Wali. Demak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui
konsep ruang kawasan alun-alun kota Demak dalam perspektif kebudayaan Islam
Berdasarkan tinjauan hisoris Kasultanan Demak yang didirikan oleh Walisongo
menjadi pusat penyebaran Islam ditanah Jawa. Walisongo sebagai seorang da’i bertugas
mengajarkan ilmu dan nilai-nilai Islam kepada seluruh penduduk kota khusunya di Demak,
sehingga nilai-nilai Islam yang terwujud dalam aktivitas masyarakat dan beberapa visual
fisik kota muncul di kota Wali ini. Hal ini dapat dilihat pada visik ruang kota Demak
dengan konsep menyerupai tata ruang kota Islam, yaitu pembangunan masjid, kediamaan
pemimpin, pasar, dan pemukiman penduduk dengan nama Alun-alun.
Penelitian ini mengemukakan bahwa perkembangan kota Demak tak lepas dari
peran Walisongo sangat penting dalam penyebaran agama Islam. Pada masa kerajaan
Islam yang diperintah oleh Raden Patah dimana dalam pembangunan masjid tidak lepas
dari peran Walisongo. Dalam perspektif kebudayaan Islam, keberadaan masjid Agung
Demak dan makam yang menjadi bangunan penting dalam proses masuknya agama Islam
di Demak.

ABSTRACT
The development of the city of Demak experienced a long history. Demak was
the first Islamic kingdom on the island of Java where Demak was nicknamed the city of
Wali. Demak. The purpose of this research is to find out the concept. Space in Demak's
city spaces in the perspective of Islamic culture
Based on the loss of the Demak Sultanate which was founded by Walisongo
became the center of the spread of Islam in the land of Java. Walisongo as a preacher was
born to teach Islamic science and values to all city dwellers especially in Demak, the
values of Islamic countries which are manifested in the form of society and some visual
streams in the city of Wali. This can be seen in the visik space of the city of Demak with
the concept of Islamic city spatial planning, namely the construction of mosques, the
residence of leaders, markets, and residential areas under the name Alun-alun.
This study suggests that the development of the city of Demak cannot be
separated from the role of Walisongo is very important in the spread of Islam. At the time
of the Islamic empire ruled by Raden Patah where in the construction of the mosque could
not be separated from the role of Walisongo. In the perspective of Islamic culture, the
Great Mosque of Demak and the Tomb which became an important building in the process
of the entry of Islam in Demak.
