Abstract

Keywords: Abraham Maslow, Hierarchy of Human Needs, Self-Actualization, Characteristics of Self-Actualized Person.

‘ This study analyzes the self-actualization fulfilment steps by Elizabeth as the main character of Pride and Prejudice novel using Abraham Harold Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs theory.
This is a descriptive qualitative study. Object of this study is Pride and Prejudice novel written by Jane Austin. The form of data were sentences, phrases, dialogue and monologue. The data collecting method in this study were conducted by reading the novel, identifying the data, classifying the data, inventorying the data, reducing the data and reporting the data. The last step of this analysis is reporting data through explanation, giving quotation and statement.
‘This study found several findings. First, the main character successfully achieved her self-actualization needs, after fulfilling the lower level of needs namely; physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs and self-esteem needs. Her physiological/biological needs is proved to be fulfilled by having food, dinner, breakfast, and sleep. Safety needs proved to be fulfilled by having comfortable home, free from anxiety, stress, and married. Love and belonging needs is proved to be fulfilled by having good communication and connection. Esteem-needs is proved to be fulfilled by having admiration of other. The study were done by findings characteristics of self-actualized person namely: realism and acceptance, spontaneity, autonomy, problem centering, and peak experience.
