Abstract

This study is to find out what question-generation strategy effective to improvestudents’ reading comprehension of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sayung in the academic year 2015/2016. This study was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sayung which is located in Jln. Raya Sayung No. 11,Demak, Central Java, Indonesia. This study was quasi experimental. The population was the tenth graders of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sayung and the sample were the students of X.1 as the experimental group and the students of X.2 as the control group. In collecting the data, the author used reading comprehension test consisted of multiple choice items. The result of this study showed that the pretest mean score of experimental class was 60.96 and that of the control class was 59.2. After receiving treatment for four meetings, the post test average of experimental class was 80.92 and that of the control class was 71.23. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference between control and experimental class. It was supported by t-test result, the significant difference in the result of post test between control and experimental class was 0.000< 0.05, it meant that H0 was declined and H1 was accepted. It means that question-generation strategy is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension. Keywords: Question-Generation Strategy, Reading Comprehension
