Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the correlation between rewards in English learning with the students’ learning achievement for the eleventh grade students at SMA Islam Sultan Agung 3 Semarang. The samples of this study are the eleventh grade students. The writer took 50% samples from the population. It was 43 students from the whole population (83 students). The writer used random sampling to take the sample. The method of collecting data is by taking the observation and questionnaire. The writer used SPSS 16 to help him in computing the data. Before the data were computed to find out the correlation coefficient, the data were computed for the normality value. It is bigger than 0.05. Then the data was calculated with Pearson’s Product Moment with alpha: 5%, n: 43, r table: 0.301 to explain the correlation coefficient. The result was there are 17 valid items questionnaire and categorized as very high reliability (0.952). Both of reward and students’ achievement are in fair level. Then the data normality shows that it was normal and it can be generalized as whole population and vice-versa. To find out the correlation coefficient, the writer used Pearson’s Product Moment in SPSS 16. The result was 0.469. Since the result is bigger than 0.301 means that the H0 is rejected. From the result above, the writer concludes that there is a correlation between reward and students’ learning achievement. Because the result also positive, then it also means there is positive correlation between reward in English learning and students’ learning achievement at the eleventh grade students at SMA Islam Sultan Agung 3 Semarang.
