Abstract

The final project discussed about the comparison methods of peer tutors and lecture in English remedial teaching at SMK Teuku Umar Semarang in the tenth grade students, especially in material of expressions. 22 students were the samples that consisted of 9 students is the experimental group, 9 students is the control group and 4 were tutors. This study used observation sheets and test. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and t test. The test result showed that the average score of the students taught using the method of peer tutors was 87.7 whereas of those taught using the lecture method was 62.7. A t-test was used to find out the significant difference between the scores of the experimental group and those of the control group. The result is the t arithmetic > t table or 5.79 > 1.746. This means that there is a significant difference between the scores of the experimental group and those of control group. So the peer tutors method is more effective and can improve learning outcomes in remedial teaching of English than the lecture method.
