Abstract

The objectivite of the research was to find out whether or not outdoors classroom activity is effective to improve students' writing skill of descriptive text at the first students’ of SMA Negeri 15 Semarang in academic year 2013/2014. The object of the research was the first grade in SMA Negeri 15 Semarang in academic year 2013/2014. To achieve the objective, the researcher conducted an experimental research. The research design used quasi experimental design. The population of the study was the first grade students of SMA N 15 Semarang. The total number was 36 students in class XA as the control group and also 36 students in class XB as the experimental group. In conducting this experimental research, the writer used four steps. Firstly, validity test to measure the instrument. Secondly, pre test was given in control and experimental group. Thirdly, treatments was given for experimental group. It was taught outdoor classroom activity as media while the control group was taught by conventional method. The last step was post test. Post test was given to both of groups. After getting the result, the researcher used t-test to analyze the data. The result of the data showed that the mean of post test in the control group was 67.92 while experimental group was 76.58. It was supported by the result of t-test that showed Sig.(2-tailed) was 0.000. It means that there was significant difference in the result of post test between control group which was taught using conventional method and experimental group which was taught outdoor classroom activity as media. So that, it was concluded that outdoor classroom activity to improve students’ writing skill of descriptive test was effective. Keyword: Writing, Descriptive Text, Outdoor Classroom Activity
