Abstract

Khoiriyah,Siti. 2014. The Use of Still Pictures As Media in Teaching Vocabulary for the fifth graders of SD Islam Sultan Agung 01 Semarang in the Academic Year 2013/2014. English Education Departement. College og Languages. Sultan Agung Islamic University. First Advisor: KurniawanYudhiNugroho, M.Pd. Second Advisor: Drs. LilikSoepriatmadji, M.Pd. Keywords: Still Pictures, medium, vocabulary mastery, young learner. The objective of this study was to find outwhether or not still pictures can to help students’ improve their vocabulary mastery for the fifth graders of elementary school students. The writer conducted a quasi experimental study using nonequivalent pre-test and post-test control group design. This study was held at SD Islam Sultan Agung 01 Semarang on Jl. PemudaGgSuromenggalan 62, Semarang. The subject of the study was the fifth graders students which consisted of two classes. Class A as experimental group and class B as control group. This study was conducted in three activities. They were pre test, treatment and post-test. Pre-test which consist of 40 questions was given for both groups. Then, the writer gave the treatment for both of the groups in different ways. The experimental group was taught by using still pictures as a medium, while the control group was taught by using a text book as a learning resource. There were six times treatments with different groups of vocabulary. Then in the post-test there were 40 questions different from-pre test. The result of the data showed that thedifferentmean of pre-test and posttest experimental group was -24.840, and sig.( Based on the analysis of post-test can be seen also the differentmean in control group between experimental group was -8.24. It was supported by the result of t-test that showed Sig.(
