Abstract

This study is about the struggles of Indian Americansin a multicultural society in America based on My Name is Khanmovie. This movie tells about a multicultural society and its daily problems. As a multicultural society, Americahad varietiesof culture, races, religions, politics, and economy. In this case, it is fragile for the existence of ethnic conflicts. Moreover, there was the phenomenon of theaftermath of the 911 terrorist attacks. Prejudices and stereotypes toward other ethnics often exist among modern American society. This study has the main objective of analyzing the main character in the phenomenon of multicultural problems in American society. This study focuses on descriptive qualitative method. It is also supported by primary and the secondary data. The primary data are taken from My Name is Khanmovie script; meanwhile the secondary data are quoted from journals, articles on the internet, and snapshot. The data of the study are in the form of monologue, dialogue, and snapshots. The data are gathered by watching the film of My Name is Khan, identifying, analyzing and reporting. The analysis is done by several techniques including exposing and explaining. The result of this study is that understanding between them in relation to the daily life of the society gives deep impacts toward society in understanding of different cultures and religions. Some conflicts can be reduced by mutual understanding among them and by controllingemotionspsychologically in solving some problems. In short, the struggles of Khan result empathy and sympathy toward the American people. They recognize that everyone is equalin taking position in a society. It is in a great demand for Americans to solve the problems. Keywords: The Struggles, Psychoanalytic Theory, Multicultural, and American Society.
