Abstract

Critical thinking skill is important for everyday life, the emotions when building arguments or solving problems, so that we can think rationally and logically. Vocabulary is also a supporter of all four skills and also grammar, because to think critically requires these four skills. This study is aimed to find out whether there is or there is no correlation between students’ critical thinking and vocabulary mastery of the tenth graders of SMA N 2 Semarang in even semester 2020/2021. This research is designed as a quantitative research. In collecting the data, the writer used test to measure critical thinking skill and vocabulary mastery. Then the data was analyzed by product moment correlation formula in SPSS 25 Version. The result of normally analyze test were 0.096 for critical thinking and 0.094 for vocabulary mastery. It can be figured out as H0 is accepted for critical thinking because 0.096 > 0.05. Thus, both data distribution of critical thinking and vocabulary mastery were normal. Then, linearity showed sign is 0.136, so H0 is accepted for linearity because sign 0.136 > 0.05. Thus, the relationship between dependent and independent variables was linier. Due to the result of the normally variable data distribution and linearity analysis was linier. Therefore to analyze the correlation in this study. The Pearson Correlation showed that the result of correlation coefficient was 0.642. It belonged to the interval 0.600-0.800 than it means that there was a high correlation between students’ critical thinking skill and vocabulary mastery, so the H0 was rejected. The researcher hypothesis Ha was accepted. It means that there is a significant relationship between critical thinking skill and vocabulary mastery of the tenth graders of SMA N 2 Semarang in the even semester 2020/2021.
