Abstract

Small group discussion techniqueis atechniques which is used in at schools to improve students’ reading comprehension. The purpose of this study is to know whether small group discussiontechniques could improve the students’ reading comprehension in seventh graders of SMP N3 Bringin in Academic Year 2017/2018. This study used quasi experimental design. This study tookVII-A as the experimental class and VII-B as the control class. This study proceded in some step done some steps, they weretry out, pre-test, treatments, and post test. This study analyzed the data by using independent sample t-test formula. The pre-test results of experimental and control class were 62.57 and 57.67. It proved that the students’ ability before the treatment was poor. The post result showed that the experimental class got higher score than the control class 77.57>69.37. The result showed that sig. (2-tailed) 0.001 was less than 0.05. It means that the treatment improves students’ reading comprehension and HO was rejected and HI was accepted. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that small group discussiontechniques could improve students’ reading comprehension to the Seventh graders of SMP N3 Bringin in the Academic Year 2017/2018.
