Abstract

This study was aimed to find out whether students’ speed reading had significant correlation with students’ reading comprehension at class XI ips1 of MAN Pemalang in academic year 2016/2017. The sample of this study were XIips1 with the total number of students was 37. The design of this study was correlational study which intended to know the correalation between students’ speed reading and their reading comprehension. The result of the study showed that the correlation score between students’ speed reading and their reading comprehension at MAN Pemalang resulted 0.605. This gained score was in range between 0.41 – 0.60 which was in category of fair correlation. The result indicated that the correlation between students’ speed reading and their reading comprehension was in fair level. It means that students’ reading comprehension could be moderately influenced by their speed reading performance. From this result the hypothesis (HO) of this study which stated that “There is no a correlation between the students’ speed reading and their reading comprehension level of the MAN Pemalang.”was rejected” Keywords: Correlational study, speed reading, reading comprehension
