Abstract

Keywords: listening achievement, video movie. The purpose of this study is to find out whether video movie is effective to improve students’ listening achievement. This study used the non-equivalent control group design of quasi experimental research. Two groups of the tenth graders were compared in terms of their listening achievement. One group watched the video movie with video and sound while the participants in the other group only listened to the audio. There were four steps in conducting this research; try out, pre-test, treatment, and post-test during four meetings of the research. The subject of this study was the tenth graders of SMA 11 Bombana in the academic year of 2015/2016. The number of the participants of each class was 20 students. The researcher analyzed the data of pre-test and post-test by using t-test formula, the result shows that there is a significant difference students’ listening achievement of experimental class after treated by video movie. The result of pre-test showed that the mean score of experimental group was 54.00 and the mean score of control group was 57.00. In the post-test, the mean score of experimental group was 79.45 and the mean score of control group was 66.75. The result of analysis showed that there was a significant difference of mean score on post-test both experimental and control group. Based on significant analysis, it can be seen that sig (2 tailed) 0.000<0.05. It is concluded that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means that video movie was effective media for improving the students listening achievement.
