Abstract

This study aims to explain the theory hierarchy of needs experienced by the characters; Linguini, Remy, Colette and Skinner in Ratatouille movie; achieved the self-actualized people or unachieved the self-actualized people and to analyze the characteristics of self-actualized people in Ratatouille movie. This study uses the theory hierarchy of needs by Abraham Maslow to examine several characters; Linguini, Remy, Colette, and Skinner in Ratatouille movie. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Primary data in this study is Ratatouille movie and secondary data were gained from articles, journals, and sites that discuss similar topics. The steps in collecting the data are watching and reading script the Ratatouille movie, identifying, classifying, reducing, and analyzing the data. Based on the result of the study, it was found that characters Linguini and Remy achieved self-actualization, characters Colette and Skinner unachieved self actualization. Colette fulfill three levels of hierarchy of needs; physiological needs, love and belonging needs, and self-esteem needs. Skinner fulfill two levels of hierarchy of needs; physiological needs and love and belonging needs. Furthermore, in the character Linguini was found characteristics of self-actualized people; acceptance and realism, problem centering, spontaneity; simplicity; naturalness, autonomy, peak experiences, perceive reality more efficiently, social interest, interpersonal relations, the democratic character structure, creativeness, and the quality of detachment and character Remy was found nine characteristics of self-actualized people; acceptance and realism, problem centering, spontaneity: simplicity; naturalness, autonomy, peak experiences, perceive reality more efficiently, Continued Freshness of Appreciation, interpersonal relations, and creativeness.
