Abstract

This study aims to analyze the experienced needs as well as the characteristics of a self - actualizing people using Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory that focuses on Mirabel as the main characters in Encanto (2021) Movie as an object. The collected data for this research were in the form of narratives, dialogues, and monologues taken from the Encanto (2021) movie. The steps taken to collect the data were watching movies and reading movie scripts, identifying data, classifying data, and reducing data. The data that had been collected were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study proved that Mirabel as the main character of Encanto (2021) movie had succeeded in fulfilling all of the needs that were arranged as a hierarchy of needs according to Abraham Maslow's theory including: physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness needs, self-esteem needs, self-actualization needs and had reflected the ten characteristics of self-actualizing people. Those characteristics are: More Efficient Perception of Reality, Acceptance of Self, Others, and Nature, Spontaneity, Simplicity, and Naturalness, problem centering, autonomy, Continued Freshness of Appreciation, Social interest, Profound Interpersonal Relations, Democratic Character Structure, and creativeness.
