Septianingrum Anita.182090144” Collaborative Learning to Enhance Students’ Critical Thinking Ability in Writing Skill ( A Case Study of the Members of SAEC in The Period of Management 2012/2013)”. A final project, English Language Education Study Program, College of Languages Sultan Agung University. The objective of this study is to find out whether the collaborative learning can help students enhance their critical thinking or not. There were two variables in this study, namely independent variable and dependent variable. Collaborative learning is the independent variable, while critical thinking in writing skill is the dependent variable. Non-equivalent groups pretest-posttest design was used in this study. The population of this study consisted of the all new members of SAEC (Sultan Agung English Club) in the period of management 2013/2014 with a total number of 113 students. There were 50 participants in this study. Then they were divided into two classes namely experimental class and control class. The data were collected using writing test, in essay form. The data collecting process was begun from try-out, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data was analyzed quantitatively before proceeding statistically using SPSS for Windows Release version 16.0. Based on the data analysis from pretest activity, it shows that the pretest average of control class was 49.36 and that of the experimental class was 49.28. After giving treatment using CoLTs for six meetings the posttest average of control class was 56.80 and that of the experimental class was 74.96. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference. It was supported by t-test result, the significant difference in the result of posttest between control and experimental class was 0.00. < 0.05. It means that the use of Collaborative Learning to enhance students’ critical thinking in writing skill was better than that of the conventional method. The result of the pretest and posttest in the experimental class was sig. (2-tailed) 0.00. < 0.05. As a result, it could be concluded that the use of Collaborative Learning could help students enhance their critical thinking ability in writing skill.
