Abstract

This study entitled “The Use of Guessing Game to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill on Descriptive Text (The Case of Seventh Graders of SMP Alfattah Semarang in the Academic Year 2017/2018). The purpose of this study is to help students improving their speaking ability. The researcher took two classes as sample, VII B as experimental class and VII C as control class. This study used quantative with pre-experimental research. Based on the result, it concluded that guessing game technique could improve students’ speaking ability to Seventh Grader of SMP Alfattah Semarang in academic year 2017/2018. It prove by the result that students who were taught by using guessing game technique had higher speaking test score than students who were thaugh by using convensional technique. The result of pre-test in control and experimental group were 78.31 and 78.79 while the result of pos-test in control and experimental class were 82.86 and 87.58. Then the mean difference between control and experimental gorup in post-test was 4.72. The result computation of t-test and t-value showed that t-test was hinger than t-table (2.295 > 2.015) and Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.027 < 0.05, it means H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Keyword : Guessing Game technique, Junior High School, Speaking
