Abstract
ABSTRACT The presence of law number 18 of 2008 concerning Waste Management is an effort of the regional government in managing waste. waste management properly will make the environment sustainable. This study examines environmental management waste management systems in an effort to create a sustainable city (Study of Waste Management Systems in Semarang City). The main questions that want to be answered (1) whether the waste management system in Semarang city can have an impact on a sustainable city (2) Is waste management in the city of Semarang carried out in an environmentally sound manner (3) inhibiting factors for the realization of an environmentally sound waste management system, and the solutions offered . The research method was conducted empirically sociological juridically namely primary data is the result of field research analyzed by the relevant law. The results of the study are that (1) an environmentally-friendly waste management system can contribute to the realization of a sustainable city, because with environmentally sound waste management there will be a good environment. (2) The implementation of waste management in Semarang City is not optimal by means of 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), so it is necessary to provide landfill land, transportation, funding, investors and increase community participation. The obstacles are the factor of population, inadequate quality and quantity of human resources, operational factors. The solution is to conduct training for employees, increase the number of fleets and containers. Keywords: Waste Management, Waste, Sustainable cities
