Abstract

The final project is about the use of Guided Note Taking method to improve students’ writing skill in narrative text. The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of Guided Note Taking method can help students develop their skill in writing narrative text or not. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMK Palebon Semarang in academic year 2016/2017 with a total amount of 324 students. This is a quantitative study with quasi experimental research design. In this research, the researcher used non-equivalent group pre-test and post-test design. Two classes were taken as the samples (experimental dan control), and one class was taken as the Try-out group. The data were collected by using writing test. The result of this study shows that the pre-test mean of experimental group was 58.24 and control group was 55.42. While the post-test mean of experimental group was 73.17 and control group was 62.93. The result of the analysis showed that there was significant difference between them. It was supported by t-test result, the significant difference in the result of post-test between control and experimental group was 0.029 (<0.05). It means that the use of Guided Note Taking method in teaching narrative text was better than conventional method. The result of the post-test in experimental group was sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. It could be concluded that Hi accepted. So, the use of Guided Note Taking Method was effective to improve students’ skill in writing narrative text.
