Abstract

A descriptive study on students’ perception about the positive effect of learning styles toward academic achievement. The aim of this study is to find out and describe the students’ perception whether or not, positive effect of learning styles toward academic achievement among students through the four learning styles aspects. They are perception, willingness to learn, understanding to the lesson, and recalling to the previous lesson. The writer uses total sampling technique in collecting the data and questionnaire as the instrument of the study. The questionnaire was distributed to the sample that is all of the college students that are 62 students divided into two majors; education and literature programs. The writer tabulates the data using Microsoft excel, analyses it using SPSS v.23.0, and interprets it using relative frequencies distribution in order to know the results statistically. The results showed that the learning styles aspects have positive effect on the students’ academic achievement. It is proved by the statistical data of questionnaire Likert scale frequencies. First, 36.5% respondents strongly agree and 48.4% respondents agree to the positive effect of perception aspect toward academic achievement. Second, 43.5% respondents strongly agree and 48.4% respondents agree to the positive effect of willingness to learn aspect toward academic achievement. Third, 28.2% respondents strongly agree and 46.7% respondents agree to the positive effect of understanding to the lesson aspect toward academic achievement. Fourth, 35.5% respondents strongly agree 41.5% respondents agree to the positive effect of recalling to the previous lesson toward academic achievement. Therefore, there is a positive effect of learning styles toward academic achievement because the students’ learning styles give a good impact on their academic achievement.
