Abstract

Afifah, Nur. 2017. The Effectiveness of Using Jeopardy Game to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension of the Eleventh Graders of MA Miftahul Ulum Ngemplak. A Final Project. English Education Study Program, College of Languages and Communication Science Sultan Agung Islamic University. Advisor: Nani Hidayati, S.Pd, M.Pd. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Jeopardy Game is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension of the eleventh graders of MA Miftahul Ulum in academic year 2016/2017. The method of this research was quasi experimental design because the writer did not randomize on the sample decided. The sample of this research consisted of 34 students of class XI IPS 1 and 33 students of class XI IPS 2. The writer used pre-test and post-test to the control group and experimental group to get the data. The writer used SPSS v.16.0 software program to analyze the research result. The writer used three steps in this research. They were: pre-test, treatment and post-test. The result of the pre-test and post-test of experimental group were 75.70 and 82.85. While the result of pre-test and post-test of control group were 73.76 and 78.12. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference. It can be seen that sig (2 tailed) 0.000<0.05. It means that there was a significant difference between the two means. It was concluded that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. Therefore, using Jeopardy Game to improve students’ reading comprehension of eleventh graders of MA Miftahul Ulum Ngemplak is effective.
