Abstract

This study was about the effectiveness of using Audio-Lingual Method to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill. The aim of this study was to find out whether teaching speaking using Audio-Lingual Method was effective or not to improve speaking skill to the eighth grade students of SMP Hasanuddin 6 Semarang in the academic year 2015/2016. In this study, the writer used a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study was the eighth graders of SMP Hasanuddin 6 Semarang in the academic year of 2015/2016 which the total number of the students was 72. The sample of this study consisted of class VIII A as an experimental class and class VIII B as a control class. The technique used in collecting the data was test. The result of this study shown that the pre-test mean score of experimental class was 56.77 while the pre-test mean score of control class was 56.25. After giving the treatment for four meetings, the mean score of experimental class was 78.13 and control class was 64.58. The mean difference between the experimental and control class was 13.542. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the result of post-test between experimental and control class was 0.000 < 0.05. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Therefore, it could be concluded that the use of Audio-Lingual Method were effective to improve students’ speaking skill.
