Abstract
Juniar, Rahmayadi. 30801600264. “Analysis Of Slang Variety and Social Function In 21 Jump Street Movie”. English Literature Study Program Faculty of Language and Communication Science Sultan Agung Islamic University. Advisor: Diyah Fitri Wulandari, S.S., M.Hum. Slang is informal or uncommon English created or formed by a community association and used by certain communities only. This analysis discusses social interaction slang in the movie. The main purpose of this slang analysis is to describe the types of language of slang words, including the types of speech acts and social functions of slang words found in the film. The main source of this analysis is based on data taken from the film script 21 Jump Street. The meaning of slang words was analyzed with The Online American Slang Dictionary (2015). The data of this thesis was taken from the movie script which was downloaded from the internet and used as primary data. This slang analysis describes the slang words or phrases found in the movie assisted by using an English dictionary and of course with theories related to slang. After researching the film script, there is slang used in this film scene, including asshole, fuck, bitch, what the hell. The slang in this film explains that slang does not always have a bad meaning to say, but there are positive words such as friends and men. This analysis is expected to contribute to the reader's understanding of deeper slang in more detail and can also provide a reference for enriching new English vocabulary used in daily conversation by the social culture of each region.
