Abstract

This study studies the elements of symbolism contained in a song under the tittle Chandelier by Sia Furler. Moreover, this study examines the deep meaning represented by a symbol in the song. This study aims to better understand the characteristics of a symbol in literary works. In this study, the song Chandelier from Sia Furler is used. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by reading the lyrics, understanding the contents of the lyrics, identifying the data, classifying the data, and reducing the data. Data analysis includes several techniques such as giving statements, describing events and quoting from monologues and narratives. In analyzing the data, this study uses the Symbolism theory to better understand the meaning of the Chandelier song. The result of this research is to find some symbolism characters. The first type of symbolism is the symbol of the object. This object uses object symbols in the form of, for example, the symbol of object chandelier which means wealth, she wants to live in prosperity because her life is difficult. In addition, symbols of color are also found, for example in yellow colors like the sun which means hope. She hopes that every day of her life she can get better.
