Abstract
Raharjo, Teguh. 2013. English Teachers’ Problems in Implementing Character Education into School Based Curriculum (KTSP) (A Case of SMP N 3 Bodeh in Academic Year 2012/2013) Descriptive Research. A final project. English Education Program, College of Languages, Sultan Agung Islamic University Semarang. The first advisor: Prof. Warsono, M.A and the second advisor: Kurniawan Yudhi Nugroho, S.Pd., M.Pd. The purpose of this research was to describe descriptively about English teachers’ problems in implementing KTSP with character education in the school. This study was done in SMP N 3 Bodeh, Pemalang. Subject and object of the study were English teachers and students of SMP N 3 Bodeh, Pemalang. In analyzing and processing data, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method with four instruments. They were observation, questionnaire, interview and documentation method. The result showed that English teachers in SMP N 3 Bodeh experienced many problems in implementing this curriculum in the school. They are problems in designing document II KTSP (syllabus and lesson plan), implementing and integrating character education in teaching learning process in the classroom, English teachers’ skills, and role of government and society. To solve the problems, the teachers had got many ways such as joining and participating in training of KTSP, searching some references about character education in internet or books, discussing it in a forum (MGMP) to solve the problems and improving their teaching skills. In addition, the government had organized training of KTSP and supported character education by supplying teaching tools and media sufficiently in order that character education run effectively and efficiently. Society especially parents of the students are demanded to control their children in the home and always coordinate with school concerning students development. Generally, it could be concluded that English teachers in SMP N 3 Bodeh could somehow apply it and overcome the problems. The researcher suggests that the teachers update their skills and knowledge in order to be appropriate with the era demand and the era development.
