Abstract

Asyrofi, Hamdan. 2014. The Correlation between Students’ Frequency of Watching English Movies and Their Vocabulary Mastery of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA N 1 Karang Tengah in Academic Year 2013/2014. Education Language Program College of Languages Sultan Agung Islamic University. Advisor by Hartono, S.S, M.Pd. The purpose of the study is to find out whether there is or there is no a correlation between the students‟ frequency of watching English Movies and their vocabulary mastery. This research is designed as a quantitative research, especially corelational study. This study was conducted at SMA N 1 Karang Tengah fom January 10 2014 to 16 th , 2014. The population was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Karang Tengah in the academic year 2013/2014. In taking sample, the purposive sampling Ûù~ [email protected]Ë¡E¶óq• @Ñ"Û ù~ª [email protected]Å °rh•[email protected] Ñ"Ûù~ [email protected]Å °rh•[email protected] the data, the writer used questionnaire and vocabuary test. The questionnaire was used to measure the students‟ frequency of watching English movies, while the vocabulary test was used to measure vocabulary mastery. The data were statistically analyzed by using descriptive analysis and Pearson product moment Formula in SPSS 16. From descriptive analysis, it was known that 1 sample has lower level, 5 have lower middle, 6 have middle, 18 upper middle and 1 has upper, while for vocabulary mastery, it was found that 1 sample has excellent vocabulary mastery, 17 samples have good, 9 samples have fair, 4 samples have weak, very weak. From the correlation analysis revealed that coefficient was 0.612, while signifance value was 0.000. It means that H was accepted. Based on the result of the study, the writer concluded that there was a 1 correlation between students‟ frequency� � � A��� � •� �h movies and their vocabulary mastery of the eleventh grade students‟ of SMAN 1 Karang Tengah in the academic year 2013/2014.
