Abstract
Keywords: article, cooperative integrated reading and composition, main ideas, close reading technique The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the learning process using the CIRC model and close reading techniques which are oriented to improving the skills to find the main ideas in the articles of students of class XI IPS MA Nahdlatul Ulama 'Pati 2018/2019 academic year, (2) increasing the ability to find ideas the main article in the students of class XI IPS MA Nahdlatul Ulama 'Pati 2018/2019 academic year after the implementation of learning with the CIRC model and close reading techniques, (3) describe the change in behavior of students of Class XI IPS MA Nahdlatul Ulama'. This research is a classroom action research conducted in three stages, namely pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II. As subjects are students of class XI IPS MA Nahdlatul Ulama 'Pati. Which uses two variables, namely increased skills in finding main ideas in articles and the use of cooperative integrated reading and composition (circ) models and close reading techniques. The data obtained in the form of the value of the ability to find the main ideas in articles and changes in student behavior. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in skills to find the main ideas in articles with cooperative integrated reading and composition (circ) models and close reading techniques by 24.12%. The average score of the class in the pre-cycle stage was 57.72 and increased by 15.48% to 73.20 in the first cycle. In cycle II, the average score of the class increased by 8.64% to 81.84. The conclusion of this research is the ability to find the main ideas in the article XI IPS MA Nahdlatul Ulama 'Pati students in the 2018/2019 academic year has increased and there is a change in the behavior of students who were previously less enthusiastic and less active in participating in learning, now become enthusiastic and active in follow the learning after applying the circ model and close reading technique.
