Abstract
Regarding to the most students still have difficulties for lacking of vocabulary mastery. This study has investigated the use of strategies in EFL learners' learning and acquiring english vocabulary for the tenth graders in SMA N 2 Demak academic year 2018/2019. The aim of this study was to find out the most and least frequently used vocabulary learning and acquiring strategies employed by the tenth graders in SMA N 2 Demak academic year 2018/2019. This study used descriptive quantitative method as the research design. The subject of the study was the tenth graders in SMA N 2 Demak academic year 2018/2019. The technique of collecting data used in this study was a close-ended questionnaire which consists of two scale adapted from Kabouha (2015). As the results of the study, for the most frequently used vocabulary learning strategy was note-taking strategy in item number 28-32, it was proven by 67,72% of the respondents used it frequently. Then, the least frequently used vocabulary learning strategy was social strategy (item number 35-37) at 53,90%. While, for the most frequently used vocabulary acquiring strategies that have been formed was complex elaboration at 61,46%. Then, for least frequently used vocabulary acquiring strategy was simple elaboration, in the item number 6-8. The respondent use it frequently with the percentage of 54,74% with the minimum score 1 which means most of the respondent use it in the “never” range.
