Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of RAFT Strategy to improve students’ writing ability of the tenth graders of SMKN 1 Demak is more effective than another strategy or not. The method of this research was quasi experimental design because it did not use random sample. The sample of this research consisted of 36 students of class X MM 1 and 36 students of class X MM 3. Pre-test and post-test to the control group and experimental group were used to get the data. SPSS v.16.0 software program was used to analyze the research result. This research used three steps. They were: pre-test, treatment and post-test’s mean scores. The result of the pre-test and post-test of experimental group were 76.11 and 86.11. While the result of pre-test and post-test’s mean scores of control group were 72.32 and 73.89. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference. It can be seen that sig (2 tailed) 0.000<0.05 which reflects that there was a significant difference between the two means. Therefore, it was concluded that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted which means that using RAFT strategy to improve students’ writing ability of tenth graders is effective.
