Abstract

Abu Amar. 2014. The Effectiveness of Drilling Technique to Improve Students’ Speaking Skill. (A Quasi Experimental Research on the Eight Graders of SMP Islam Sultan Agung Semarang in the Academic Year of 2014/2015).Advisor: Benny Krisbiantoro, S.Pd, M.Pd.A Final Project. English Education Department, Sultan Agung Islamic University, 2014. This study is aimed to look at how the use “Drilling technique to improve student’s speaking skill of eight grader of SMP Islam sultan Agung 1 Semarang in the academic year of 2014/2015. The design of this study was experimental research, and used quantitative approach. The population of the study was the eight graders of SMP Islam sultan Agung 1 Semarang in the academic year of 2014/2015. In the case, the the two group was choosen from the population, class VIIIA as experimental group and class VIIIC as control group. In conducting the research, four steps was done, there were try-out, pre-test, treatment, and post-test. First, try-out was given to another class before other steps were conducted. After, pre-test was given to both of group before treatment. And then, post-test was conducted after the last research to know whether there was significant different result or not. In regard analyzing the result of data, the researcher used SPSS. The result of t-test showed that the mean of the experimental group and control group in pre-test was similiar, 46.97 and 44.73. After conducting the experiment, the researcher gave the post test. The mean score of the experimental group was 70.97. and for the control group was 49.10. The T-test calculation shows that the difference is significant enough. It was supported by the result of the pre-test and post-test in the experimental class where the obtained t-value was 2.590 and t-table was 2.000, so t-value was higher than t-table (9304 > 2.000) and sig 2-tailed (0.000 < 0.05). It could be assumed that H was accepted. 1 From the explanations above, it could be assumed that using drilling technique has benefit impact in teaching-learning proses as resource. In addition,it gives an effective ways for students to learn English fast, especially in speaking skill. Keyword : Drilling Technique, students’ Speaking Skill
