Abstract
This research conducted to find out the effectiveness of using Numbered Head Together strategy to improve students’ ability in reading descriptive text of the eight graders of MTs NU Demak. The method of this research was quasi experimental design because the writer needs to compare between the experimental group and control group. The sample of this research consisted of 38 students of class VIII A as the control group and 38 students of class VIII B as the experimental group. The writer used pre-test and post-test to the control group and experimental group to get the data. The writer used SPSS 16.0 program to analyze the research result. The writer used three steps in this research. They were pre-test, treatment and post-test. The result of the pre-test and post-test of experimental group were 64.74 and 73.55. While the result of pre-test and post-test of control group were 62.71 and 70.74. The result of the analysis showed that there was significant difference. It can be seen that sig (2 tailed) 0.000<0.05. It meant that there was significant difference between the two means. It was concluded that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. In short, the use of Numbered Head Together strategy to improve students’ ability in reading descriptive text of the eighth graders was effective.
