Abstract

This study is aimed to find out whether or not the use of Reciprocal Teaching technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Semarang in the school year 2015/2016. This study was conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Semarang which is located on Jl. TambakDalam,SawahBesar,Gayamsari, Semarang,Central Java, Indonesia. The type of this study was quasi experimental design. The population of this study was the eight graders of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Semarang and the sample were VIII A as the experimental group and VIII C as the control group. In collecting the data, the writer used test named pre-test and post-test. The result of this study showed that the pretest mean score of experimental class was 59,57 and that of the control class was 58,19. After giving treatment for four meetings, the post test average of experimental class was 77,43 and that of the control class was 64,11.The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant difference. It was supported by t-test result, the significant difference in the result of posttest between control and experimental class was 0.000< 0.05. It means that the use of Reciprocal Teaching technique in teaching reading comprehension was more effective than that of the conventional method. It could be concluded that H1 was accepted. So, the use of Reciprocal TeachingTechnique is effective to improve students’readingComprehension. Keywords: Reciprocal Teaching Technique, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text
