Abstract
Political speech is always correlated with power, influence, authority, and conflict. Megawati’s Political speech in Rakernas 1 PDI in 2016, became a means of disseminating political ideology through symbols messages both verbal and non-verbal. Behind the symbols of communication messages, values and culture of democracy are reconstructed to gain the sympathy of the public. This research is aimed to reveal the meaning behind the communication message of political speech made by Megawati in PDI Rakernas 1, 2016. The researchers used a qualitative approach, with Roland Barthes semiotic method using three levels; denotation, connotation, and myth. The data analysis for this study is the speech text in order to show verbal communication, and images which are showing the non-verbal communication. The result of this research shows that political speech is used as a way of disseminating propaganda for democratic ideology that tends to support capitalists to meet the interests of the rulers and his/her groups. Megawati as a follower of democratic ideology, categorize messages during a speech communication to include elements of democracy in a politically correct level. As in the words of mutual aid, grassroots, proletariat, Cakrawati, party has become a part of democracy that disseminate to the general public in order to encourage people’s compliancetoward the programs and policies that will be established.
