Abstract
Keywords: Popular Culture, Fast Food, Chef, Individual Psychology Fast food is one of American popular culture that is well-liked by many people. It also donates to a big business for gaining the profits. The film of Chefdescribes about the existence of American fast food anywhere and shows the struggles of the main character Carl Casper’sto become a reliable and reputed chef. It implies that Carl’s struggleis a striving for superiority and striving for success. Hence the objectives of this study are to find out the meaning of American food business in relation to popular culture and to analyze Carl Casper’s struggles in American food business dealing with his superiority in the Chef film. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. It consists of two data, primary data and secondary data. The primary data is from the mental evidence of the Chef film itself. Meanwhile the secondary data embraces books, journals, articles, and on-line sources. And the data are gathered by watching film, identifying, classifying, inventorying, reducing, and reporting. The analysis includes several techniques including giving statement, describing, and interpreting. In analyzing the problem, this study uses theory of popular culture along with individual psychology approach. The results of this study showsthat the existence of popular culture is undeniably true. Popular culture can spread out over the world by social media. The film describes the roles of media for marketing. Furthermore, the main character Carl Casper has great motivation to change his perspective about himself. First he feels inferior toward his environment, but he finds his self-reliance to be a superior one aftermath he changes his opinion about his life. Finally, he can be successful to run his American food business.
