Abstract
This study analyzes about American Dream with The Pursuit of Happyness film as the object of the study. Will Smith as Chris Gardner who played as main character is focused as the major analysis, a black people who is struggling to live in America. The aim of this study is to know and to analyze the concept of American Dream in The Pursuit of Happyness film. Moreover, this study also conducted for knowing American life style in pursuing the happiness. A descriptive qualitative is used as a method of this study which embraces the primary and secondary data. The primary data fully deals with “The Pursuit of Happyness” film. Meanwhile the secondary data are cited from some sources such as books, articles, journals, and internet. The study covers several techniques included exposing, explaining, and interpreting. The result of this study proves that the American Dream’s values is described distinctly in Gardner’s life as a main character in the “The Pursuit of Happyness” film. Chris Gardner is a “Black people” who decided to stay in America with his small family. They come with a mission and believe that to be welfare and got a better life is by hard working, patient and believing in God. The way how they are struggling for living is called American Dream “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. which follows the value of Chris and his family.
