Abstract

This study is aimed to find out (1) the strengths teacher trainee’s teaching skills in microteaching class, and (2) the weaknesses teacher trainee’s teaching skills in microteaching class of sixth semester students of College of Languages of UNISSULA in the academic year 2011/2012. This study was conducted at College of Languages of UNISSULA from June 12th, 2012 to July 26th, 2012. The subject of this study was sixth semester students which consist of 11 students, where as the subject only taken one class from microteaching classes. In collecting the data, the writer used observation to observe the teacher trainee teaching skills, questionnaire method to determine the strength and the weakness their teaching skills, and interview to support the data. Then the data was analyzed by using descriptive analysis and the simple formula [ P= f/n X 100% ]. In this study the writer analyze about the professional competency which have to be mastered by teacher trainee in microteaching class before they do school teaching practice in real school. Professional competency consists of: (1) opening and closing the lesson skill, (2) questioning skill, (3) variety of learning skill, (4) explaining skill, (5) classroom management skill, (6) provide reinforcement skill, (7) guiding small group discussions skill, and (8) teaching small group and individuals skills. From the result above, it can be concluded that teacher trainee have more strengths teaching skills (explaning skill, variety skill, reinforcement skill, questioning skill, and closing the lesson skill) than weaknesses teaching skills (opening the lesson skill, classroom management skill, and guiding small group discussion skill).
