Abstract
This study analyzes a woman who tries search her identity across Italy, India and Bali. The object of the study is a movie which adapted from a novel “Eat Pray Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert. The movie tells about Liz who searches everything across Italy, India and Bali. Her guilty feeling, confusion, disappointed, it made her decided to do the journey. She goes to Italy to find pleasure, India to closer to God, and Bali to learn balance in her life. And then for deeper discussion, the final project uses an identity theory and theory of motivation to support in analyzing. This final project has two problems to be explored; those are: (1) why do three themes: Eat, Pray and Love become central issues in the movie? (2) What does motivate Liz Gilbert to search for her identity?. The analysis in chapter four discusses all the problems above. The writer uses qualitative method as the method of investigation. The writer takes the data from the movie script and compiles some references from several articles, books and sites that are related to the subject matter. The data are in the form of dialogues and sentences, and which are related to the topic. The data are gathered by watching the movie, identifying, inventorying, reducing, and analyzing. At first, the writer watches the movie to understand the story. Second, the writer identifies data to find parts of the movie which are going to be analyzed. Third, the writer inventories the data to list all the identified and put them on the table. Fourth, the writer reduces the data to select the most relevant data related to the problems. The last, the writer analyzes the data, which are resumed to be the answer of the problems. This study is expected useful for the readers, especially who lost in their life and want to find what they really want. After reading this final project, perhaps they would find satisfaction in their life.
