Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether large wall pictures can improve students’ competence in simple present tense. The type of this research was experimental research. The population in this research was the seventh grade students of SMP 1 State Ceper Klaten. There were consisted of six classes. The sample in this research consisted of 74 students. There were two classes and each of them had 37 students. They were divided into the experimental group (class A) and control group (class B). The writer chose the multiple choice test to get the data. The test consists of 30 questions as pre-test and 30 questions as post test given to the students. The result of the test of experimental group and control group is significant. The students’ score who were taught by using large wall pictures were better than of those who were taught by convention method. The mean score of experimental group in post test was 64.9550 and the score of control group was 51.9820. It showed that the experimental group had increased their achievement in simple present tense. Based on the research, it can be concluded that teaching grammar especially simple present tense by using large wall pictures is effective. Besides, it can motivation students’ to learn more.
