Abstract
The data in this study are analytical exposition texts written by students of eleventh grade of MAN Rembang It attempted to find out the students’ errors in writing the text. The objectives of the study where to know how the students’ analytical exposition texts were structured, what kinds of language features were found in the students’ analytical exposition texts, and how the social function of the text was achieved in the texts written by the students. This study used qualitative research method. When the data collection was completed which consisted of students’ analytical exposition text, the texts were then analyzed based on the objectives of the study. The result of the study reveals that there were 93.4% students who completed the three elements of the generic structure, and only 6.6% students failed, because they didn’t make a conclusion. There were 66.7% students who had good proficiency in their language features, and 33.3% students who had fair proficiency in their language features. Most students could achieve the social purpose of analytical exposition texts well. Although, there were some students who had not achieved the social purpose of analytical exposition well, in general most students achieved the social purpose of analytical exposition texts. In conclusion, most of the students had a good proficiency in writing the analytical exposition text. They also achieved the social purpose of analytical exposition text well. The students should practice more in writing analytical exposition text to make in their writing better. Keyword: Analytical exposition, writing, eleventh grade
